Introduction Post

  • Apr. 20th, 2025 at 8:16 PM
mornings
Today I'm finally remembering to finish and post an introduction post. Most important thing first:

I am constantly reminded of how far I have yet to come as an ally and as a person, but I just want to put this out there: If ever I do or say anything that makes you feel hurt, unwelcome, or uncomfortable, I promise that I will do my best to listen as calmly and patiently as possible, and if necessary will remove myself from the keyboard for time to calm down so my response will not be reactive or defensive. For any times that I have said anything that has hurt you in the past, I apologize. I'm always trying to do better, and I know that sometimes that's not enough.

--

Ten things you might want to know about me:

1) I'm a queer, privileged, cis-gendered, white woman.
2) My greatest love in life is writing, both fic and original.
3) My fic can be found in a variety of places, but most of it is available or linked at [info]tuesdayfic.
4) I've been in fandom since 1996, starting at the age of ten when my sister introduced me to the internet. (Yes, that makes me 23.)
5) My best friend is [info]lizfu. You will probably see me talk about her quite often.
6) I am very much a fannish butterfly. There are some fandoms I will turn back to quite often (Psych, for instance, holds a very warm place in my heart), but I am always flitting on to new ones (currently, Leverage is catching my eye), though sometimes I keep a "main" fandom for a while.
7) Sometimes I am in RPFandoms. I've moved away from politifandom (at least, as far as writing and most reading goes), but I'm in The Daily Show/The Colbert Report and Kanye West fandom.
8) I am very much of the belief that diversity is good, and that while my areas of fannish glee or enjoyment don't necessarily match yours, that in no way means that we can't get along.
9) On that note, there are some things that I, for the most part, won't read. These include, but are not limited to: chan, teacher/student relationships, large age gaps, non- or dub-con, and incest. While there are exceptions to these (Gregor/Miles, for one), I have no interest in searching them out. I'm mostly listing this to let you know I won't fill comment-fic requests and to please not surprise me with non-con in something you may ask me to beta for you.
10) For the most part, I'm fairly laid back. Friend, unfriend, access, remove access, subscribe, or unsubscribe at will. I hope you don't take too much offense if I do much the same. Status on my reading list isn't necessarily indicative of how I view our interpersonal relationship.

If ever you have any questions or comments, consider this a free post to nudge me.

pleased to meet ya, again :-) forgive me for asking, because I have looked it up but still didn't quite understand - what does cisgendered refer to?

Cisgendered means that I was born the gender I identify as (rather than being transgendered).

Considering I'm still in the process of setting up my Dreamwidth, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to kick myself and finally post an intro. *g*

:) *waaaaves* I always love reading people's "Ten Things About Me" posts~

And oh man, I am so getting my hands on some Leverage DVDs when I am back in Asia, I was trying to resist, but the combined forces of Aldis Hodge and Chris Kane and the brunette who played Jane on Coupling are too much to resist ♥

Oh my gosh, and it is by someone whose journal I sometimes visit to lurk in. I finally worked up the courage to subscribe to her Dreamwidth. Subscribing is somehow a lot less difficult for me than friending. I have a feeling my relationship with Dreamwidth will be a very, very happy one.

I have much angst about subscribing/granting access. Is it rude to do one and not the other? What are the implications of each? WHAT IF SOMEONE JUDGES ME ON WHICH I CHOOSE TO DO? On LJ I have no shame, I'll click friend on anyone who interests me in a vague manner, shape or form. BUT DEE-DUB IS HARD, MAN.

Oddly, DW is so much easier for me. I don't mind granting access to people, and will probably use it in an unintended way to keep track of people I won't necessarily put on my regular subscribe list (to, you know, remind myself they're there). As for subscribing, it's a reading list, not an indication of how I feel about a person, so I feel a lot better about subscribing to random people than friending them.

I think it's what you make of it at this point. There are a lot of people who are subscribing, but not granting much access, and a good deal of us who are like "Whee, have access! I hope you don't mind if I only briefly drop in rather than subscribing." And then there are some who do both with everyone. It is a wild and free new environment, so we'll see what etiquette turns up as time passes.

*bounces on* What is chan? I do not think googling will be very effective for that >>

It's a term used to indicate that one of the characters in a ship is underage.
[info]uminohikari wrote:
Apr. 22nd, 2009 03:14 am (UTC)
Ooh. What...if both are underage?
[info]everysecondtues wrote:

I tend to avoid any sort of fic with underage characters in any sort of sexual situation, so I couldn't really tell you for sure. I mostly remember seeing it used to refer to Harry/Snape fic when I was fifteen and looking for Snape gen fic.
